SWK 641 - Laws and Policies for School Social Workers


Credit Hours: 3

Provide a deep understanding of the history of education, special education, and current legal and ethical standards. Discuss emerging issues, which will provide a strong basis to advocate for educational policy and appropriate resources to support quality education and the legal rights of students with disabilities. Able to effectively communicate the needs and legal rights of individuals with disabilities according to state and federal special education law. Prepare to work within the school environment with educators and families and to collaborate with students with various disabilities.

Prerequisite: SWK 618  
Additional Requirements: One of three required courses needed to practice School Social Work in Michigan.
